That same night, Wen Dingyi, the daughter of a high-ranking official, witnesses her family destroyed after her father is falsely accused of treason. Adopting the alias Mu Xiaoshu, she disguises herself as a man and becomes the apprentice of an executioner. Eight years later, at the execution grounds, she narrowly escapes death thanks to his intervention—he is unaware that he saved the daughter of the disgraced official accused of colluding with Wudi, while she has no clue that he is a scion of the very imperial family responsible for her clan's ruin.
